I can't believe how fast February went by and we are almost HALF way done with March. Things have been crazy and VERY busy at school! I apologize for not posted a lot last month!!
Here's what we are learning this week and next week! Math: This week and next week we are learning about time. Students are learning how to tell time to the nearest minute. Students should be able to tell time using an analog clock. Next week students will be learning about elapsed time. For example....If Sally went to the grocery store at 3:20 and spend 45 minutes there, what time did she leave? Science: We have been learning about the 5 regions of GA and the plants and animals that live there. Currently we are learning about the habitats and adaptations that plants and animals have to survive. Writing: Our main focus right now in Writing is preparing students for the constructive response questions they will be doing on the Milestone. Reading: We are currently working on the elements of Stories, Dramas, and Poetry. Next week we will be working on Main Idea and details and Asking and Answerin Questions. Everyday in reading and math we are SPIRALING back to standards from the beginning of the year to help review for the Milestone. To help prepare your student please look over the Math and Reading homework each night with them. I also will be sending home study guides. Feel free to use them as you guys please. FEEL FREE to email me with any questions you may have!!!! The Milestone test will be here before we know it! Here is a parent resource that will help you have a better understanding of what the test will consist of. WARNING!!!! This document has MANY pages. So feel free to look over it whenever you get a chance! I hope you find this more helpful than overwhelming. Also you will start to see different homework/reading packets that your student will be completing for homework. This is to help prepare them more and will review standards that we cover earlier in the year!
Let me know if you have any questions! http://www.gadoe.org/Curriculum-Instruction-and-Assessment/Assessment/Documents/Milestones/Study-Resource%20Guides/Milestones_StudyGuide_GR03_11-16.pdf I hope that these past couple of weeks you've been able to spend time with your child and have some warm fun! Glad we are finally back on a NORMAL schedule.
This past week the kids have been great and they seem to be adjusting back to out schedule. HERE ARE SOME ANNOUNCEMENTS!!!!! TOMORROW is the last call for Variety Show Application.. AUDITIONS will be Jan 30-Feb 1 form 3-5 in the cafeteria! The Student Ambassador Program at SPE is currently asking for coats, hats, and/or mitten donations for those in our community who may need an extra warm 'hug' during this chilly season. These amazing students are focused on the needs of both the school community and those who live around/near them. Staying warm at the bus stop, fighting colds and flu, and knowing that they will not be left out in the cold are important to the parents and children who attend school or live in the area around Sedalia Park. Please consider adding this information to your blog, Remind, and/or DOJO blasts in order to fill the Snuggle Box outside the office (many time over). What might only take you a few minutes to complete may help shield someone from the cold for many months to come. The final date for donations is BINGO night (2/2)--all families can donate as they enter the school to win prizes, enjoy some great fellowship, and support SPE! That's a win-win-win!! Thank you for helping us to reach as many families as possible for this warm and worthy cause! The 2nd and 3rd grade levels will perform, Thursday night February 1st, after the PTA meeting. The 2nd and 3rd grade students will go to their classrooms at 6:15pm. Parents will go to the cafeteria. The PTA meeting will start at 6:30pm and end around 6:50pm. The 2nd grade level will perform first followed by the 3rd grade level. We should be finished by 7:20pm. I hope to see you there!!!!! BINGO NIGHT is Feb 2nd from 6-9! I hope you all had a GREAT Thanksgiving and had some time off to spend with family!
